Finding the Message in the Music
Faith Rock and Roll is a speaking series that uncovers spiritual themes within popular rock music. Drawing from songs many people have known and loved for years—by artists such as U2, Bruce Springsteen, The Rolling Stones, The Clash, Wilco, Pearl Jam, and Todd Rundgren—the series invites audiences to hear familiar music in a new and meaningful way.
Over the past two years, Faith Rock and Roll has been presented in four sessions as part of the Valslist Music Series at Winnetka Chapel, with average attendance exceeding 175 people per event. The program consistently engages audiences and sparks fresh reflection through the intersection of faith and music.

" Paul Agase takes the audience spiritual trip through Rock and other forms of music lyrics. Besides listening
to some great tunes, the beauty is at
journey's end, you'll have a greater
appreciation into the mind of the writer.
Regardless of your beliefs, I
highly recommend traveling with Paul on
this musical mystery tour. "
"Faith Rock and Roll uses modern day music - songs we are all familiar with - to make the connection between lyrics and life. Music has always been my favorite form of communication - with myself and others - which is why I found the FRR sessions to be so powerful - whether you're spiritual or just a music lover - the experience is like a front row seat to the concert of your life!"
“Paul Agase’s Faith Rock and Roll series offers something for everyone. It’s an evening that is both inspiring and entertaining as the conversation moves from insider stories to thought-provoking lyrics, and more! Paul is a gracious host, inviting his guests to share, reminisce, and above all else, connect with the audience, as he himself also does. 100% recommend!”
"Presented by Val’s List at the Winnetka Chapel, the November 18th Faith Hope Rock & Roll event unfolded as a graceful dialogue between generations, guided by Paul Agase and Hope Agase Van Alstyne. Rather than lecturing on belief, they invited the audience to listen differently to hear the spiritual subtext woven quietly, and sometimes boldly, into popular music we thought we already knew."
" I have attended several FRR events. As
a result, have felt enriched and
enlightened. Music exposes
commonalities”.
"Paul brought the seasoned ear of a lifelong listener; measured, reflective, deeply attuned to lyric and lineage. Hope countered with clarity and emotional intelligence, translating meaning through a contemporary lens that felt both intimate and fearless. Together, they modeled something rare: reverence without rigidity, insight without nostalgia, a conversation with the soul."
